Yes, it is a polka dot crib sheet. When baby E. was born five months ago, I kept looking at her crib sheet during midnight feedings, thinking, "Hmmm, that would make a nice button down shirt for Eli." I know, I am weird. Well, it almost did. I envisioned this cool, urban outfit - a shirt and distressed black jeans. Can't you picture it?
I cut the pattern pieces and everything was going smoothly. I finished the cuffs. They looked perfect, just what I wanted them to look - the right size and nicely topstiched. And then, the disaster happened. It actually happened when I cut the pattern pieces, I just didn't notice in time. Somehow, I cut two sleeve pieces exactly the same, so one sleeve had the closure and the buttons on the back, and one on the front. Sigh. What an idiot. Since I didn't have any more fabric left, I had to cut off my perfect cuffs and make it into a short sleeve shirt.
I still think it's kind of cool, doesn't quite have the urban feel I was going for. Eli liked it.
I love it! I think it turned out great, short-sleeves and all! :D
ReplyDeleteToo, your link isn't working on PR&P. I looked you up from my blog. :D
It's working now! :D I still love that you used a baby sheet for the shirt!
ReplyDeleteOH NOOOOO hate it when i make such silly mistakes, though they never seem to STOP happening.. lol Oh well it's all part of the adventure right? it still turned out really great, nice job!
ReplyDeleteWhat a pretty boy! I was just thinking that you are only sewing for the girls for this project :) a very nice outfit, I love the shirt in dots and also the jeans are very fancy!
ReplyDeleteI love this fabric for a boy's shirt and it looks fantastic. Shame about the sleeves but at least you could save it.
ReplyDeleteLove the pants! Great job!
ReplyDeleteGreat shirt!! I use all kinds of things - especially sheets as fabric :)
ReplyDeleteOh, my goodness! I had that happen when making a blouse for my daughter. Only it was two right fronts! I had to start over as I didn't have anymore of the print fabric. I ended up making a solid. Your shirt is perfect on your son and the jeans are great. I love that you were able to refashion them from an existing pair!
ReplyDeleteThe shirt looks great! I would never have thought to use an old crib sheet, but the design is boyish and it turned out really well - good job!
