It seems I can't stay away from Project Run and Play. I wasn't planning to sew along this round, and here I am presenting my second project. It's the denim week, and who can resist that. :)
I had a Tencel denim remnant left from sewing for the Willow & Co lookbook. Tencel are eco friendly fabrics made from wood pulp. Tencel denim has luxurious feel and look to it. The fabric drapes beautifully, it almost seems that it has fluid quality to it.
For the pattern I used the Polly Dress by Bubby and Me Creations. Nikki, the designer, contacted my a while ago and asked if I would review the pattern. I wasn't sure at first, since the blog and the designer were new to me. But my good friend Sara, who tested the pattern, recommended it and I agreed. I am happy I did. I like the design quite a bit, it's very feminine but not too sugary. I made the ruffles quite a bit narrower then the pattern, maybe too narrow. The pattern is well drafted and written. The instructions are easy to follow. The project is suitable for a beginner. I did wish there were notches on the pattern. Nikki explains in her directions the placement of the ruffles, but I tend to be lazy and don't want to do additional measurements, I wish there was a notch on the pattern itself. But that's my only complain.
The photoshoot was a struggle for us. Between a hungry, a bit crabby, a whole of of fidgety child and my shaky hand I almost had no images that were sharp. I also managed to overexpose half of them. Sigh. But on the positive note the dress is super cute and Ania loves it. I am sure I will be making more, it's really is a perfect dress for summer.
This is one of the overexposed images, but it cracks me up. Ania decided to hold aweed stunning flower in her teeth to add some visual interest to the picture. The child cracks me up.

ReplyDeleteTencel...I'll have to try that as my granddaughter is quite sensitive to fabric next to her skin, and might like that kind of denim. Thanks for the informative blog post. Your outfit turned out lovely.
