It's my turn for the Color Me Fabric tour by Mouse House Creations. I am excited for my friend, Hayley, and happy she was able to bring her great idea to life. Not only the concept is great, the quality of fabric is superb. The paisley print reminded me of Russian fairy tales - of beautiful princesses and noble princes, of Koschei the Deathless, Baba Yaga and the magical Fiery Bird. Of course, all the magic happened in far away kingdoms in enchanted forests filled with good and evil creatures. The childhood fairy tales and the fabric became my inspiration for the top.

I drafted my own pattern and then decided to grade it and share it with all of you. The Vasilisa top is peasant style with elasticized shirring on sleeves and below the waistline. It is available in sizes 2 through 12. It is a beginner friendly pattern. The PDF pattern includes computer generated, tiled pattern that can be printed on 8.5" x 11"/A4 printer paper, Individual sizes can be chosen for printing. A detailed, step-by-step tutorial includes diagrams to illustrate each step, measurements charts, fabric requirements, materials list, printing instructions and diagrams. Disclaimer: the pattern is free and unlike my patterns for sale, has not been rigorously tested. Download the pattern HERE

Let's talk more about the fabulous fabric. I planned to let Ania color, but she happens to have a two year-old sister who wants to do everything Ania does. The coloring could only happen while the youngest was napping, but unfortunately, Ania was also either in school or some other event on the weekend. So, I took charge and colored. It takes concentration, I tell you. I was so preoccupied with coloring that I managed to completely burn French fries. They turned into tiny logs of black coal and that was THE dinner. (For those of you who know me personally and are terrified by my dinner choice - they were organic. And I was busy coloring. Priorities. LOL) I didn't want to color the whole thing, just to give it a pop of bright pink along the edges to match the neckline. I was obviously feeling pink that day.

As we were walking in the forest (well, a park, really), Ania thought it would be great fun to make up our own fairy tales. I let her start and she became quite creative. There were magic wolves and other creatures roaming around, paths that lead to enchanted houses and on and on. Then she became scared of her own fairy tales and urged me to leave as soon as possible, because it was simply too dangerous too be walking around in the forest. Never mind that we could see houses through the trees.

She gave me me her best pose and then ran away. Far far away from the dangerous forest, back into the light. (I also made the leggings with a gathered detail at the bottom, tutorial is coming up.)
