My name is Oksana. I have been sewing and designing clothes for almost 20 years. When Olga asked me to run the blog with her, I was super excited. What a great platform to share my knowledge and expertise. We decided to start with a bang and design a signature look for Project Sewn.
A few years ago I read this quote by Coco Chanel, "In order to be irreplaceable, one must always be different." This is why I enjoy designing clothes - it is an expression of who you are as in individual. I like to combine classic style and silhouette with interesting and whimsical details. However, I also believe you need to know when to stop and not to go overboard with design elements and trims.
The dress came together accidentally. I was going through my stash deciding what to keep and what to donate, when I came across a remnant of fabric. I liked it but wasn't sure what to make out of it. It seemed that it would be perfect for a strapless dress. I draped on my body form and the dress was born.
There wasn't enough fabric to finish the neckline. I took the dress to the store and played with different trims until I found the one I liked the best.
My favorite part of the dress - it is super comfortable and also it flatters pretty much any body type. I love it.
I love the trim. It adds a lot of interest to the dress.
ReplyDeleteImpressive!
ReplyDeleteVery creative design! Now, I see how you've worked with this remnant. Brilliant really. And the extra trim really takes the dress to a higher level of chic.

It really is a wonderful dress and I love the sleeve - I voted for it on Project Sewn
ReplyDeleteThis gal has unbelievable talent!!! To take a piece of fabric, that most people would throw away, and turn into a beautiful dress in a few hours prior to going out on the town is amazing!!!
ReplyDeleteI love the detailing along the shoulder and neckline. So beautiful!
