This is my third project during the KCW. I am a lucky recipient of a new pattern, the Norah Dress from Mouse House Creations. Thank you, Hayley. The pattern was just released a few days ago, and it's a winner.
It can be made in either woven fabric or knit with endless possibilities to make it look one of a kind. Mine is made out of the softest knit fabric that I've had in my stash for a while. It has been snowing for few days now. Nothing is accumulating, but the snowflakes are in the air and winter is approaching. When I was looking for fabric, this print stood out. It also reminded me of traditional Russian and Ukrainian fairy tales that I grew up reading - magical kingdoms covered in snow.
The sewing was going smoothly. I didn't have to use a seam ripper once, until in a spur of a moment I decided to give the dress a decorative hem. I forgot that my fancy machine is a knit eating contraption. It devours knits like cakes.
And even though I took necessary precautions, the hem came out slightly wavy and not very attractive. Ugh. I ended up cutting it off, there was no way I could've unpicked the puckery mess, and overclocked the edge. I am not sure if I just leave it along now, or try to hem it again.
The pattern is suitable for a beginner - no button holes or zippers! It's a quick and satisfying project. I can t' wait to play around and create new versions.
The pattern is available here and here.

This pattern look amazing! And I absolutely love this fabric. Looks so cozy and winter-y. ;)
ReplyDeleteI love the fabric! Mixed in with the snow is little hearts <3 Super cute!
ReplyDeletewhat a lovely dress! so snowy-cosy, really brings out the best associations of winter: hot tea with lemon, fireplace and a book of fairy tales! the print reminds me of Gogol's New Year and Christmas novels, very nostalgic. I think you have a good candidate for the Chrsitmas outfit for Anya :)
ReplyDeleteI picked up a chunk of this fabric end of last winter- I'm dying to use it but can't decide what! I love your use for it, it's cozy stuff I'm sure it will be well loved dress.

ReplyDeleteThis dress is adorable! I love the fabric you chose. You did an excellent job and your little one looks adorable.
ReplyDeleteso so sweet! Great fabric too. Sorry about the hem, we would have never noticed! I like to call my sewing machine Dancing Feet- I really just never know where it's going to stitch next- so for someone who like to topstitch- arghhhh it drives me crazy everytime.
ReplyDeleteOh that fabric! It suits this dress so well :) Love it, even though I do not miss snow a bit.
ReplyDeleteWhat - a knit-eating machine! What a monster! I would leave the hem as is then.
Beautiful job Olga! I appreciate you sewing it up and showing it off so well! That fabric is awesome

ReplyDeleteBeatiful fabric OLga! I love northern Europena stoybooks too. Particularly Astrid Lindgren and Elska Beskow
ReplyDeletewhat a beautiful dress!!! Where did you find this fabric??? I love it and the pattern as well.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! I would've never known you had a wavy hem at all. I can sympathize with you and your machine that eats knits though...some days it does fine but then others I want to just throw it out the window. -Jen
