Burda Pattern Geometric Print Skirt

I am participating in a wonderful series, Sew-a-bration of Womanhood hosted by Shaffer Sisters and Call Ajare. At first, I wasn't going to participate due to other non-sewing obligations, but then it's such a great series, and a great excuse to make something for my self. Well, if you expect something amazing, lower your expectations. I made a skirt. :)

It's a pencil skirt with an elastic waistband. Told you. :) The pattern came from Burda Style magazine 2/2013 issue. :) I almost went cross eyed trying to trace it. :)  

I didn't have to make any major adjustments, to the skirt, even though my waste measurement was a bit larger. I was lazy to draft my own pattern, and thought it would be faster to use an existing one. It worked, but I am a firm believer that if you want a well fitted pencil skirt, draft your own pattern. It's not hard and there are plenty of free tutorials available.

I was trying something new as far as my pictures go, and let just say it didn't turn out as planned. I did consult lovely Vanessa and Alexia and hopefully do better next time. :)

The fabric came form my favorite wearhouse. It was a big remnant, all cut up. The whole piece cost me maybe $2.00. Score! The geometric print is very much on trend now, so that's a double score. :) I loved playing with the print placement. Only one line meets at the bottom. I was inspired by my friend Mie, who is a print placement guru. :) I hemmed the skirt by hand, and there are no visible stitches on either side. My new bloggy friend Sara would be very proud of me.  :)

 And that's a wrap :)  Oh yeah, see the bedazzled t-shirt I am wearing? :) Eva Mendez wears the same shirt in Hitch. Love the movie, so funny and innocent. :) The shirt is pretty old, but so comfy.
