The dress evolution

A while ago I came across the cutest fabric from KOKKA. I have a soft spot for border prints, and this one was just the cutest – little animals in school and at the playground. What not to love! Unfortunately, the shop only had a remnant of it left. I snatched it along with half a yard of matching print. Initially I envisioned a very simple dress similar to this one

made by Amanda over at http://doublestitching.blogspot.com/. I thought the dress was cute, and more important fast and easy to make. But when it was done and put on my three year old, it was way too short. I simply didn’t have enough fabric. It had to turn into a skirt with a cute matching top. Except the top and the skirt wouldn’t cooperate and look nice and neat together. So, the project evolved back into a dress. I absolutely love the results.
I used one of the Vogue patterns to make the top. It was supposed to have a collar, but it was omitted since I didn’t have enough fabric to make one.

I especially love cute little buttons in the back; it is probably my favorite feature of the dress. I also thought that Vogue deserves its reputation of “being too hard”. The button closure took me forever to figure out.
I asked Ania, my three year old, to model it for me. She agreed but thought the dress couldn’t be worn by itself, it definitely required at least one accessory.
Perfect!
