I don't like sweets. There, I said it. I'll take a jar of pickles over a bag of candy any time. But there is one exception, however, I am addicted to dark chocolate. A few years ago we attended my sister's in law wedding. Artisan truffles were given as party favors at the reception. They were hand made, individually wrapped, chocolate masterpieces. Smooth, luscious, not too sweet, melt in your mouth deliciousness. At the end of the reception my mother-in-law let me collect all the pieces left behind. The best thing EVER. The wedding was lovely too, ahem.
When I saw this fabric at the remnant bin at my favorite local fabric warehouse, it reminded me of the crinkly shiny wrapping paper the truffles came in. There were two small pieces of fabric, but it was extra wide, so I knew I will be able to make something of it. Enter the Project Run and Play candy challenge.
The fabric has a textured look, but it is very smooth to the touch. I used this pattern from Popolok Design. I tested it before and made a shirt version of the pattern and Ania wore it quite a bit this summer. I like the fitted bodice and the ever so popular peplum. I attached the skirt slightly different, so the peplum is free standing and not attached to the skirt in the back.

A gust of wind made the skirt look extra full.
Where would a child wear such number, you might ask. Well, there is always an opera. Funny enough, this is Ania's favorite thing right now. I am lucky because my children like and wear everything I make. But nothing was as popular as this dress. So far she wore it to church, to a playground, for a walk in the neighborhood and really wanted to wear it to play soccer. I had to put my foot down on that one. :)
And there you go, my interpretation of the candy challenge.
too cute! i have been completely lost at what to make for this week.

ReplyDeleteI have to make a dress for my daughter to be a flower girl next month out of a shimmery gold fabric, and I was just thinking of using the Cece dress pattern for it! Thanks for giving me a preview :)
ReplyDeleteSo sweet! The Cece is still one of my favorite tops too. And who needs an excuse to dress up? It's beautiful!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful colors! Love the neckline.
ReplyDeleteWOW, looks very yummy :) and what's important chocolate in this execution does no harm to the waistline :) I think it turned out very fashionable, with some key trends of the season: the BASQUE (I insist on the French word instead of the peplum :D), metallic fabrics, the rounded collar and the brooch!Very elegant. I m not surprised the child is addicted to the dress, she likes her jewelry and everything than shines!I also love how the wind plays with the skirt. very well done!
