It's all about plaid at Project Run and Play this week. I am excited to see what everybody creates! I wasn't sure if I would play along this week, since I didn't think I had any plaid in my stash and I am trying to resist buying more fabric. But then I remembered I purchased awesome robot fabric to make a shirt for Eli when he was about 5 years old and fascinated by anything robot related. Fast forward three years and the robot fabric was still in my stash, untouched. I also bought half a yard of matching plaid fabric to incorporate into the shirt. This was a perfect opportunity to use it up before Eli is too old for the slightly childish design.
The front placket, cuffs and the inside of the collar stand are made out of the matching plaid. I love the fabric, it's really too bad I only had a half a yard of it. The fabric is Stenzo. The on-line store I bought it is unfortunately out of business.
The pants are linen, and where upcycled from a women's pair I bought at the garage sale for 50 cents. They have a functional zipper in front and where supposed to be fitted but since the child is skin and bones I had to add an adjustable elastic in the back. The pattern for the shirt came from Burda. The pants were heavily modified from an Ottobre pattern.
Eli was happy to finally get some clothes. Ania was happy she didn't have to model.

ReplyDeleteRobots + plaid = awesome! I love it!
ReplyDeleteThat's a cute boy's outfit, and isn't it so great when we stop buying new fabrics and really use what we already have?! I mean, I've been sewing from my stash for nearly a year, I didn't need to buy more than 3 pieces of fabric for all this timeand have been sewing like crazy!
ReplyDeleteThis is such a happy shirt - great colors and well done!
ReplyDeleteNice job - it looks great! Love that you didn't buy anything for it. I caved and went out to the fabric store. Can't wait to see what you make next week!
ReplyDeletePants and Cool boy Plaid! Way to go Momma. My boys would love this!

Great outfit! Looks like those robots found the perfect home
ReplyDeleteWow nice job making that shirt from only a half yard. I can relate to making the you can from a small amount of fabric. I buy everything in 1/2 to 1 yd quantities. If I buy more then that then I get tired of the fabric and start using it unwisely.
ReplyDeletePlaid robot??!!! I love it.
ReplyDeleteWell done!
