Everyday Tank Blog Tour

When Irene of Serger Pepper emailed me inviting me to participate in the tour, I wasn't sure if I would have the time. I already had a few sewing obligations and a mini vacation planned around the same time. But then I looked at the pattern and agreed immediately. It was simple and versatile, something that can be made into basic wardrobe staples or re-imagined/reconfigured into something more fancy. It also had a dress option. Perfect.

I made a tank top, but with a few small tweaks. I added about three inches to the center front before cutting it, then added gathers. I also lowered the neckline a bit and narrowed the shoulders. A while ago,  I came across the feathers that were a free download on Pinterest and thought it would be a cool detail to transfer onto the shirt. After reading numerous glowing reviews I purchased  Lesley Riley's TAP Transfer paper. This was my first time using it, and I think it turned out ok. When the directions tell you to press with an iron on the hottest setting for a long time. yep, apparently they mean it :) Not all the detail quite transferred, though since it's feathers, it's not too bad. A also added a band at the bottom of the shirt. That was not planned originally, bu I managed to make a hole with my serger. Oops. I like the addition.

The pattern is easy to follow, the instructions and visuals are well done. This is a suitable project for a beginner or somebody who never sewed with knits.

Believe it or not the pictures were taken on a particular warm October afternoon. This kind of weather is long gone, unfortunately. Ania loves her top and wore it a few times since I made it. It goes well with a cardigan.

It was such a quick and easy project that I decided to make her leggings (also Irene's pattern, get it here) to go with the top, just in case she decides to use it as pjs. The child was not in a mood to have her pictures taken, until I brought an antique tea set that I got from my grandma. It's the only thing I inherited, so clearly it was brilliant to let a six year old play with it. Ahem. 6. Great detail with the feathers, I think it is even fortunate that they didnt transfer in all the brightness of the colors, this way they match pefectly the grey white-out bands. I also think without the band it wouldn't be the same. Great mix with the jeans as well as the pjs bottoms ;)
